More lessons from the W

YT: What country is See-ole in?

W: Soul?

YT: No See-ole.

W: Soul.

YT: s. e. o. u. l.

W: I need to start keeping a log of this stuff (laughter).

For everyone who is wondering, the city of Seoul is in Vietnam and I am already keeping a log.

Art Fest Banner

Ok.....So, I know that I have been rambling on and on for a few weeks about this art fest I will be in on Mother's Day weekend (my first one ever).

I have finally completed my banner that will go up on top of my tent.

What do you think? Does it stand out enough?

I was going to go with a quilt for a banner and then applique the title on it, but I had already spent so much money already that it just worked out better for me to go with felt for the background (very cheap, but I hope it doesnt look cheap).

Now I remember why I dont offer much applique in my shop....it's a pain in my tushie.

Those butterflies are my favorite part. When I purchased them I was a little worried that they would be too delicate because they were made out of paper and I was unsure how I was going to attach them. After I received them in the mail I was thrilled...they were so perfectly made (and a must for my banner). I hot glued pins to the back of them and pinned it to the banner. I love them. I got them at the Gilded Bee if anyone is interested.

Things the W says...

On the main road in town they are tearing out the concrete medians (they will be planting trees when they get all the concrete gone). I'm watching these big clawing bull dozer thingamajigs (sorry about that description) scoop up the concrete into its big hook arm and lift it high in the air and then drop it in to a dump truck (I am mesmerized).

YT: Wow, look at that thing..It's like a big hand (I demonstrate what the big clawing bull dozer thingamajig does using my hand).

W: When you were younger you should have just said no.

New Buisness Cards

They werent promised to me until May 9, so I was super surprised to find them in the mailbox today. Arent they lovely? If I had them to do over again, I would put my shop name in black or a dark brown, but I only bought 50, so I will have to reorder soon anyway.
For curious minds: I bought them from Overnight Prints. I love them. They let you design it yourself and upload your image. They were only about 20 cents a piece so I feel like a got a helluva deal.
Yay me!

Grrrr.....

The W opened up a letter that I have been waiting on for over a month, after I told him not to open this letter when it comes.

Of course, it was a rejection letter.

I dont know whats worse: the rejection letter or the W reading about me being rejected.

I am very upset about this (and sad).

I always talk to him and tell him when I get a letter like that, but something about him reading it before me makes the rejection sting worse.

I am not speaking to him now (or looking at him) no matter how sweet he tries to be.

Boo me......

So....

Tired. Blah, blah.

Dunwoody Art Fest

This is going to be my first ever art festival! I am so excited and have been super busy getting ready for it. I've talked the W into helping me (he's not very happy about it). So if you are around the Dunwoody area (close to Atlanta), come and see me.

Text Messages with Mom

Me and the W had date night this past Saturday and we went to see a movie called Date Night (how ironic). Mom and Dad watched the kids. The following is a text message I receivied during the movie.

Mom: Why did u let happy have vault?

YT: We did that for u. Ha Ha (evil laugh)

Mom: Not funny. He said the W gave it to him b/c he was coming over here. He is talking non-stop

YT: Welcome to my world. Feel my pain now?

Mom: If I had known he had vault I would not have given him ice cream and chocolate cake.

YT: (laughing)

Confession of an obsessive reece cup consumer

I have discovered reece cup peanut butter ice cream. (Oh my!) I bought just a small carton of it and hid it in the freezer behind all the other boxes and such.
I always teach my children to share, but I will not share this tasty, sinfully delicious concoction. It is MINE, MINE I say!
So hopefully, nobody will discover it's secret hiding place and I can enjoy it for many days to come (wink).

Books I have recently read

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry.... I loved this book. It got a little confusing at times, but I thought it had a clever little plot going on and it made me think alot.
The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kend... This was beautifully written. I really enjoyed it and will probably end up reading it again. I learned alot.
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold... I loved this book, but hated the ending. Great idea, written good, but ending gave me no closure nor its characters. However, thats probably how it happens nine out of ten of the times.

Grumpy's Gripes

Grumpy: Mom, must you use the word 'reckon'? Its country, and you sound like an old hillbilly when you say it.

I probably use this word a hundred times a day. Do you want to get some lunch? I reckon so. Can we go to the movies today? I reckon.

To take this word away from me would throw my world off balance. However, my daughter Grumpy is much smarter than me and has proven it (I would never tell her that).

We live in a town where only 10,000 people live, but we are not country, by any means. So, is 'reckon' a country word? One must go to dictionary.com to know for sure.

The word 'reckon' had 7 different definitions. But, alas, my favorite one was the one where Grumpy was correct.

reck~on
-verb (used without an object)
Chiefly Midland and Southern U.S. to think or suppose.

You see that little part up there in italics before the definition? "Southern U.S" That's the part that makes Grumpy correct. Boo me.

I will continue using that word. I like it dad gummit......

Squabbles with the W

Me and the W have random squabbles on a daily basis. These are not fights, but simply disagreements over the most random and irrelevent things. This week we are arguing over the original Mario Bros. game. He says it had power wings, I say it did not (we have not settled this squabble as of yet).

Last week the W went and helped one of his buddies move a bedroom suit from one house to the other. It turned out to be an estate sale where they picked it up from.

Note: I am not a yard sale or estate sale person. Its not that I dont love old stuff, I do, but I just dont ever go to them.

The following conversation took place via cell phone after the pickup of the bedroom suit.

W: Hey baby, guess what?
YT: What?
W: I bought us a china cabinet and it was only $400
YT: You bought a china cabinet without me?! You spent $400 without me?!
W: This was a great deal. It's solid wood. You would spend several thousands on one at a furniture store.
YT: China cabinets are for old people and I dont have any china and it will make our dining room look junky. I cant believe you spent $400 on something I dont want. A new couch, not thats what I would have wanted.
W: Uh, I thought you would be happy. I thought I had done good. She even through in the table and chairs for free.
YT: You spent all that money on somebody else's junk. I love the table I have.

At this point he hung up on me because my voice was louder than usual and his buddy was in the seat beside him.

I would have preferred a buffet over a china cabinet and I stand by my idea that they are for the older people in the world. This is the dining room I would want, and my personal taste.

Later on the W sulked and went to call the lady back and tell her that we were not going to get the cabinet, but I stopped him and said that I would take it (hey, something new is something new and I like getting and taking the something news that come my way). So the W was happy.

The next day we go get it. I of course do not like it, but am willing to take it anyway. It was good pecan wood and in great shape. The table was hideous, but the chairs that went with it I fell in love with immediately. They needed to be reupholstered, but I have great ideas for that. One of the chairs were missing, which led to the W being disgruntled. I found a foo foo chair in the home that was a must have. I call it that because thats what it is, a foo foo chair. The lady said we could have the chair for only $40 because of the missing dining room chair. Alas, I was now ecstatic. The chair was a keeper.

So, me and the W, and let me add here that I am the weakest link of any movers in the history of mankind lugged the china cabinet, table, 5 chairs, and the foo foo chair all on the back of his truck and hauled down the road as if we were the beverly hillbillies (it was really piled that high). All the while the W hums the tune of Sanford and Son.

We set the china cabinet up. The W has a partial antique china set from his great great grandmother and its kinda pretty with orchids on it (my fave flower). I'm scratching my head looking at the cabinet in place (thinking how great it looks and how it just completes the room).

W: You like it, dont you?
YT: It's okay.
W: No, you really like it, dont you?
YT: (sighs) I really, really like it!
W: Say it
YT:
W: Say it now
YT: You were right
W: (smiles and looks at me smugly)

I kept our original table, but used the chairs we had just bought. Since one was missing, I kept two of our original chairs and put them on the ends. I know this is mix matching, but you always see lots of different chairs around tables in magazines. So I think it looks okay, kinda gives it that country shabby feel, which is what I like.

So you see folks, I can admit when I am wrong. The W would like me to add that he is usually right, and I am usually wrong (groan).

Things the W has taught me...

Maybe, I am the only one who sometimes gets laughed at for the things they do not know. Maybe not.
The W likes to remind me of these things routinely.
It's not that I am ignorant (I made all A's in school), its just that sometimes, somethings, you just never realized it until it is pointed out to you or you are publically corrected (groan).
So, when you read this, do not think me stupid, think me uninformed.
I thank the W for his wisdom (picture my finger in my mouth and gagging).
Things I didnt know:
  1. prairie dogs are actual animals, not wild dogs sticking their heads up in the prairie
  2. when your neck hurts, you dont have a creek in the neck, you have a crick in the neck
  3. Czech Republic is pronounced 'check' not the way it is spelled
  4. you ask for a sip of a drink, not a sup of one

Are you getting a feel of what all our arguments entail?

You have to be able to laugh at yourself, folks.

Giveaway time...

Confessions

Okay, so everyone has weaknesses, right? So what, if mine is reese cups.
Yes, the kids were minus 3/4 a bag of reese cups for their easter baskets yesterday, but should I really feel bad for it?
My blunder was buying the candy four days early. What was I thinking?
No, I am not kidding about the 3/4 quarter part. I really ate that many.

Too Good Not to share

I came across this article on yahoo and it was too good (and true) not to share. Click here to read about the mania of football that is the state of Alabama. No, I am not a Bama fan, I am much wiser than that (War Eagle!).
